I'm making a quilt for me, Cool Quilty Things,Your color fix for today

Okay...here it goes! I am declaring that since we spend so much time making quilts for everything else under the sun, it is "time" we make a quilt for "ourselves". Can ya believe this??? Yep, a true bonafied quilt that we can call our own, one we get to snuggle under. Make it simple, make it elaborate....make it anything your little heart desires....but just make it for YOU.

Let's spread the word, let's spread it far and wide....let's let other quilters know "It's time" for us to make a quilt for ourselves. It's okay, it's not selfish, it's not gonna cramp our time commitments. Ya know why? Because we deserve to cuddle ourselves in something we love to do. Are ya with me? Are ya ready? Get your head in gear to do this. Don't hem and haw over a pattern, just pick something, anything.....just get your scissors, rotary cutter, needles, threads, sewing machine....whatever way you choose to make it....but....LET'S JUST DO IT!

So...here is what you need to do. Grab this icon and put it on your blog, put it on your facebook, My Space, Website....anywhere! Get your friends to join. Let's make this universal that it is "really okay" to make ourselves a quilt.

Link my blog to your blogroll, add a comment to this blog, generate excitement and I will post your completed "YOU" quilt at the end of the self challenge.

We will have a virtual celebration, sip drinks of your choice, oggle at all the quilts we will be snuggling under and just be plain ole proud that we did it!

Deadline (and don't super stress) will be Valentine's Day, Feb 14th. Why then? Because we "Love" to quilt!

Let's get to it....let me hear from ya!!!

COOL QUILTY THINGS

YOUR COLOR FIX FOR TODAY

November 8, 2009

What I've been doing,The Needle Lady,Diane Rose-totally blind quilter,Your Funny for Today,Your Color Fix for Today

So, what have I been doing? I have been multi-tasking like a crazy woman lately. My teaching schedule at the end of this year has been phenomenal and I love it that way. I cannot tell you how much I love meeting quilters and sewers and how much I love teaching. Houston Quilt Market and Festival has left me full of colors and inspiration that is ready to explode forth from inside me.

I have been making class kits, designing new applique patterns ready for the new year, creating new classes for 2010, booking classes and lectures for 2010 and 2011,working on a quilt for a very special person in my life, watching my corgie pup Zoie grow by leaps in bounds in this first year she has "owned me", and ......immensely loving every single minute of designing my second fabric line. Oh how I wish I could tell you what it is, but you will just have to wait.

I am also working on a contest for everyone who would like to participate using my first first fabric line "Iridescence" with Avlyn Fabrics. You will just have to check back in the beginning of the year to see what the contest is all about....hope you will join in!
Meet Pam Turner, the inventor of the Spiral Needle
I am so inspired by this woman who did this all for the love of her mom. Pam was frustrated in watching her mom thread needles, that this was the springboard for her inventing a tool that is well worth visiting her website to not only read about the story behind her invention, but also to read about how she learned, tried and made it possible for her to make these herself.

I think you too will love her story.
I LOVE when I see something re-invented for a greater purpose, and what I love more is the story of why Pam invented these needles. Being a "patent illustrator" for shy of two decades (before my professional quilting life), I am always intrigued with the story behind an invention.
Her website is informational, but more so inspirational too....make sure to visit!

Diane Rose
The only known totally blind quilter.

I am truly humbled today in all I do. I hope after you read, you too will look at what you create with new "eyes"
Meet Diane Rose. Diane is so far the only known totally-blind quilter. This amazing lady has completed 600 quilts.
YES!!! 600.

Vision-impaired with glaucoma all her life, Rose became blind as a result of an accident in 1984, a mere four days before she was to undergo a cornea transplant. But not only has that condition not slowed her down, Rose has used it to serve as a means to motivate others to achieve their true potential.

She has used her lack of sight as a springboard to give motivational talks both within and beyond the context of her ministry, Rose of Sharon Ministries. "The way I look at it, if I can do what I have done, without sight, how much can you do?" she said.

Her achievements are considerable. Even without sight, Rose was heavily involved in the Nashville music scene as a journalist covering the various aspects of, and personalities in, country music.

And it's not as if she has been dabbling at quilting, either. "I have been doing it since 1998," she said, "and I have made more than 475 of them." She also has a goal to make 500 quilts by Aug 14th 2008 which is her 10th anniversary of making quilts.

In fact, Rose's music connections have resulted in quilts being sold to such personalities as country music legend Loretta Lynn. "The quilt I made her used to hang in her gift shop," Rose said.

And that's not all. "President Bush has one of my quilts hanging up in the office of his ranch in Crawford, Texas," Rose said proudly.

So, how does a blind person make a quilt at all, let alone make quilts that famous people would want?

"By feel," she said. "The first quilt I did, I did with polyester instead of cotton."

What's the difference? "I can feel the texture of the polyester," she said, "but the cotton was too smooth to be able to feel.

To read more about Diane, please visit her website and let her know quiltrose@prodigy.net
how inspirational she is to quilters.....I know she has inspired me!

My new fabric line "Iridescence",Houston Market,Festival,Classes,Quilted Gowns, Funnies, Color Fix

I worked hard, had more fun than I ever imagined and I am so proud to finally present to all of you my very first fabric line with Avlyn Fabrics titled "Iridescence". This was a true labor of love that I enjoyed every single moment while painting and illustrating. This collection portrays my personality and outlook on life everyday....colorful, positive and just genuinely happy to be in a profession where I love what I am doing every day!

What I hope for is that you, the quilter, sewer and fabric lover is to become inspired, uplifted and smile when you use this collection.

Whimsical, beautiful and full of movement with a little bit of sparkle. Iridescence
features swirling dragonflies, colorful garden flowers with outlines of metallic gold and an intricate yet delicate medallion pattern.

Avlyn's booth...busy, busy, busy at work taking fabric orders!!!
One of the great things about being at Houston Market is being able to catch up with some of my buddies and seeing people I haven't seen in ages.

Brint Fanniza my favorite scissor guy and friend and his wife Michaelann
Pat Sloan....way in the back and Hollis Chatelaine

My applique buddy, Beth Ferrier

Charlotte Angotti, who also made this spooky quilt for Henry Glass Booth

Kaffee Fasset

Debbie Caffrey's booth full of great mysteries

Barb Vlack of Electric Quilts
I wish I had taken pics of so many more of my quilt buddies, but sometimes our gift of gabbing overtakes the memory to actually take the camera out of the purse......

And I just loved to see all the great booth displays that oozed with creativity and colors.

And seeing of my favorite designers was a real treat for me!
Amy Butler
Heather Bailey

QUILT FESTIVAL
Mega Mega kudos to you Caryl for your Best of Show Quilt. It is truly is a labor of love and moved me. I am so happy for you my friend!
You just have to admire those that make quilted pants and wear them to festival. These gals were a hoot and gladly let me photograph them!

You "want" or "need" fabric? Does it really matter? This was "THE" place to go....oodles and oodles of aisles of pretties just waiting for you to take them home.

Need some sparklies? No need to go far. Again, many aisles of sparkly beads,
buttons and baubles.
Classes I taught at Quilt Festival:
Floral Sun Dance

Wish all my pics were in focus and I could post more....but let me just say that my class was not just fun, but lively and lots of laughs. I love this pic! Doesn't it look like part of her applique piece is her fingernail?

The Wild Rose (click)
Jam packed class, and we had a ball!

In between being at Market and Festival, I made a trip to lecture at teach for the QUEST quilt guild in Little Rock, Arkansas
Shirley Chai, the program chairman for QUEST brought me to a fantastic eatery in downtown Little Rock. I usually don't post pics of my food or restaurants, but this one is a MUST. GO THERE if you are ever in Little Rock.

The Flying Fish is a blast. Click on the name for their website.
The outside of the building has old boat motors attached to it, but it gets better......

Yep, inside is where you can surrender, get rid of...ok...put up for adoption your Billy Bass Fish plaque. Got one of them? Don't care for it? Is it annoying to you? Send it here.

You'll even find people who decorated theirs before sending it off.

And everywhere you'll find fish with wings on them,
I loved the liars wall.....too funny!
And way up high, you'll find old fishing tackle boxes.
Shirley took me out to the river where I loved this sculptor and studied the artistry of it.

We went to the art museum too

And one of my highlights was getting to meet my online quilt group buddy Sherrie Dodds. We never met, but have known one another forever.
Patchwork and Quilted Gowns
And back to my normal oddities that I find related to quilting and sewing. Did you know that gowns were made of patchwork? I didn't, but here they are. They are stunning? Don't you think so too?

I have an announcement, Quotes for Today,Cool things I love,Quilting Cartoon,Pet Beds,Your Color Fix for Today

WOO HOO...HAVE AN ANNOUNCEMENT!!!

I am truly excited to announce my collaboration with Avlyn Fabrics as one of their fabric designers. My first collection is fun, fresh, and whimsical.
The kind of fabric that makes you happy!

When I first put my pencil to paper, my thoughts were of you, the quilter, sewer and crafter. We LOVE color and that was a no brainer for me as I am a huge lover of color too. I designed this first collection with some of the things I love......can you tell I am being quite secretive??? Believe me, I am full of anticipated excitement to show you the finished fabrics.....but we are still working on a "name" and finishing up the coordinates. I know in my heart you will love it!

So....how did this happen for me? Jaye Lapachet, a friend of mine from San Francisco,CA has an amazing blog called ARTQUILTMAKER where she posts a word prompt every week.

Sherri Dodds of Little Rock AK and I became the first two "joiners" illustrating what the word prompt meant to us. Sherri's blog name is " The Lazy Quilter" which is sooooo not true!
We really got excited about this and Sherri's son Tommy drew this little "cow" which became the icon you click on to get to Jaye's prompt page on her blog. Sherri and I put this icon up on our blogs and the word prompts began spreading to others. You should join us. You don't have to draw, you can do anything you want to portray the word prompt...even photos!!!

My good good sewing buddies who are more than just sewing buddies, saw my illustrations and told me it would be great in fabric.

So, the idea was planted.

Well....not exactly true. Mom and dad had told me years back that I should design fabric, but I had been busy writing quilt books, designing patterns, teaching and lecturing for symposiums, quilt guilds and quilt shows.
I had a "time" problem ..or so I thought....

Charlotte Angotti, a good friend of mine calls me on my cell and says "Are you coming to Quilt Market and showing your designs to the Fabric Manufacturers?" Ummm....gulp!
"Um, no Charlotte" I tell her, "I have no room to stay there, and hadn't thought I could go."
"Get whatever designs you have packed up, get in the car
and get your butt to Pittsburgh!"
No time to think....this is the best way for me to get this done!

So......in the car I go and I am off to Quilt Market in Pittsburgh, the mega market of the quilt world, where designers, quilt shop owners buy for their shops, pattern and fabric companies and artists all show what "new", you know...that superlicious eye candy we all want!

I arrive at Quilt Market 6 hours later (drove in torrential pouring rain) and am greeted by Charlotte Angotti of Quilt Maker's Studio
and Debbie Caffrey of Debbie's Creative Moments.
I stayed with Debbie and perused Market with Charlotte.

My little design pad under my arm, I made my way to fabric companies who loved what I showed and eager to sign right there or talk after wards.

The last company I went to was Avlyn where Karen Combs was sitting and showing her newest fabric designs....very yummy I may say! Karen and I made a lunch date where we chatted, ate great food and I showed her my designs.
I loved listening and learning about Avlyn. Karen was eager for me to meet and show Avlyn's president my designs. She intuitively knew that I would fill a niche and what I had to show was fresh, unique and FUN!
And what can I say.....the rest in history in the making! My first line of fabric will be at Quilt Market in Houston this fall....and I can't wait till I can show you the first collection.....stay tuned to my blog to see.

Zoie, Inside My Classroom, What do you do with...,Mini blast from the past, You Color Fix for Today

Hello everyone! It seems forever since my last post ( 3 weeks!), but I have had my head buried in designing and soon I can tell you what that all means...just make sure to stay tuned to my blog ...wink wink.

I usually need to give some though to what I want as my first picture when I post, but I knew I wanted to start with these great tiles for some inspiration. I LOVE the color combo (notice the sashing...um, I mean red grout), I love the simplicity of the design and oh how I wish I had these in my home.
Before we get to the quilty, sewing, fiber stuff....little Zoie has been begging for her spot here. If you remember not that long ago when she was a wee baby, she claimed the title as my assistant and I have neglected to show her updates on how big she has gotten. If only we all could "Live what we Love" just as little Zoie does everyday.
Yes, Zoie still has a big head....ya gotta love it! She really is a great doggie that I love dearly. She behaves perfectly, listens well and makes me smile and belly laugh every single day. She's a corgi for sure.....and they are known to be clowns, and she is most definitely a clown!
Zoie is learning to fetch a frisbee. She's getting the hang of it and has caught a few in the air, but I am thinking that since the frisbee is bigger than her head and 1/2 as long as her body, it make take her awhile. She doesn't think so though. She is GREAT at bringing it back for a little treat.
Ok....onwards to:

INSIDE MY CLASSROOM

Class: Floral Delights
Location: MAQ Retreat in Maryland.
Meet Jennifer DeCamp from Chantilly, VA
Jennifer never , ever appliqued in her life before and actually is not a fan of hand work, and she most certainly let me know this from the beginning, and the middle of class !!! I am sporting a huge grin here. Jennifer is a great student. Attention to detail, wanting to learn about colors, contrast and a general all over beautiful piece. She worked hard........
and at the end of class she told me she LOVED applique, loved hand applique! WOOHOOOOO!!! And the next day she brought in her whole piece totally finished. Kudo's to you Jennifer....can't wait to see the Panda and Baby done from the pattern you purchased! See ya next year.
Love, love this funky vase.

Happy, bright yellow back ground...now I only wish I remembered to pull my camera out before everyone left at the end of class.
Now that smile tells me this is one super duper student.
One thing I promise is that if you never appliqued, you will be after my classes. Look at all that got done in this full day class!
And from the BeeHive class......
Class: The BeeHive
Location: MAQ Retreat in Maryland

I get lots and lots of young and upcoming quilters and a huge applause to those, moms, grandma's and friends that introduce the younger generation to quilting.

The BeeHive Class in part hand and part machine applique and the introduction to making 1/8" bias tape for your beehives......very easy.....my students can testify!

And a spoof played on a student. She signed up for my class a long time before the retreat. Again, another non appliquer....I am smiling again! Her mom and 2 sisters also were taking classes at retreat and bought this lawn ornament and hid it in the car trunk. At lunch time, she was bestowed with a Beehave sign. I LOVE IT.
We had a blast teasing and laughing over how she was being dubbed by family as the queen bee.

THE ULTIMATE QUILT ROOM
by photographer Tom Mannion

I am speechless. All that came to mind were captions and scary thoughts.
Some were:
Old quilters ne
ver die...
they just use up every single la
st fabric scrap they own and their friends too.

Would a quilter's husband, significant ot
her, or partner really understand what redecorating a room with a quilt theme mean?

Is this the ultimate way for a quilter to re-purpose her stash?

A conversation between two quilters:
"Well, he told me that my stash was getting to big and that I should think about using what I had before buying anymore fabric."

What were your thoughts when you saw this?
Join me in captioning this picture!

Artist Paul Margolis
Paul is pretty amazing. As a dad, bus driver and artist, he makes quilts we ordinarily don't see. To read more, click "here" and to help find these a home, click "here".

GURNEY QUILTS
I guess a quilt is in order for whatever the occasion may be.

Just when I thought I saw it all......

A Cell phoned named "The Quilt"
Sky introduced this slider handset known as "The Quilt" in Korea. The idea here is that it actually sorta resembles a quilt. (I would have at least liked to have seen a REAL patchwork pattern here and then I would have not objected it to being called a quilt.....but that's just my opinion!)
Wooden Sewing Machine
I was happy when I found another wooden sewing machine like I did in my last blog post...
you need to go check them out!

METAL QUILTS

I am drawn to these metal pieces of art quilts. As quilters, we should be so honored that what we love and create spills over to other artists who create their versions of "quilts"

Dog Food Quilt Block

I couldn't believe this when I found it. Yep....this is made with dog food. I am quite impressed that there is someone out there that actually makes art with dog food....but why not? His name is William Kenneth Daw and an animal lover at heart. When I first saw this, I naturally saw this as a quilt block.....don't you see that too?

This post was so much fun putting together.I hope your time here was fun and some of the quilting/sewing related things you saw and read about made you smile and say WOW! Life is full of surprises and the ingenuity of artists makes my curiosity grow.

When I am putting together a lecture or designing a new pattern for classes or a pattern, my inspirations are endless. Just the COLOR FIXES alone play around in my head and fill me with motivation.

I have been working on a new lecture that will bring the funny, the bizarre, the ingenious and the ultimate in quilting....just like you read and see here!

I hope my blog sparks the quilting and artistic muse in you.
Share this with a friend and I hope you leave a comment!

Wooden Sewing Machines,Sewing Machines that sew "Music",Shoes Made from Quilts,Fiber Art Sewing Machines,Your Postive Thought for Today, Color Fix

THINGS I LOVE

I just absolutely love this little wooden sewing machine. What a great way to expose the little ones to sewing. You can own one of these little babies too! These works of art are loving created with much thought and expertise right here.

A Sewing Machine that Sews Music?

Imagine, you are at a party and the Dj is playing your tunes, a good mix, a perfect set, music you never want to forget, no problem! You can wear that music because this machine can stitch the full Dj-set visual on a t-shirt for you. So don’t wonder if you see a busy black sewing machine next to Dj turntables in your club in near future! Sounds Butter is an interactive Design group who came up with the idea to visualize sound with a sewing machine through the height of the stitches it creates. Before you clap your hands to order your super looper sound stitchi machine you have to be patient, because at this stage it is just a prototype.

QUILT AND SEWING THEMED CAKES
My quest to find these AWESOME Sewing and Quilt themed cakes all began with an email from my friend Diann. She sent me a pic of a sewing ma

I could never ever eat this cake. It is to beautiful....
but if you don't eat it, then what?
This cake was made as a surprise for this creator's mom to match the quilt her mom made. WOW! What a gift.

Quilty Curtains,Class Stuff,Pin Cushion Bean Bag Chair, Your Quote for Today,Your Color Fix for Today

Quilty Curtains
How fun is this? I have a blank window where I sew. Just shades with no curtains. I thought it would be sweet if I did some type of quilty looking curtains and then I came across these great looking window dressings.
It affirmed that I want to do this.
When I finish, I'll post them to show you what I did. Have any of you done quilty looking curtains? Let me know and I'll post them right here!
I LOVE when I teach a class and my students show me what they have done when they are finished! It makes me happy to know they didn't end up as a UFO. If you have taken a class from me and finished, please let me know and I would love to show what you have done right here.

Maureen Farr turned the class "The Bird House" into a beautiful pillow and Gloria Grohs used the reverse side of her fabrics to soft
en the boldness of the prints to make this wall hanging.
The last picture is from when I lectured for the Thumbstall Guild in upstate NY and was suprised with a finished tablerunner from the Modena; An Italian Balcony class.
I was looking at Darcy's blog and loved how she took scrapbooking paper to make this very colorful wall in her basement. I then began to think that a fabric wall would be beautiful too. I guess all we would need to do is use the dustbuster every so often to clean?

I am going to toot the horn for my mom. She made this beautiful baby quilt for a very dear dear friend's first grand daughter Gabriella.
Such a happy little crib isn't it?
The Pincushion Beanbag Chair
WOW! Now this is the ultimate bean bag chair for anyone who sews....
this gets 5 stars from me and 2 thumbs up from me!

Sewing Needles re-purposed,Laugh,Go Play,A normal day where I live,Your Color Fix for Today

Sewing Needles Re-purposed
Talented Willard Wigan has carved Mr Obama and his family into the eye of a 24-carat gold needle. Speaking in Los Angeles, as he was about to launch his first American exhibition, Willard revealed: 'My favorite piece has to be President Barack Obama and his family.
Born in 1957 in Birmingham, Willard Wigan began his artistic life at a tender age. Suffering from dyslexia and learning difficulties, he struggled at school, finding solace in creating art of such minute proportions that it virtually could not be seen with the naked eye.
“It began when I was five years old,” says Willard. “I started making houses for ants because I thought they needed somewhere to live. Then I made them shoes and hats. It was a fantasy world I escaped to where my dyslexia didn’t hold me back and my teachers couldn’t criticize me. That’s how my career as a micro-sculptor began.”

Willard’s work is described as “the eighth wonder of the world”. One of the specifically commissioned works includes the replica of the iconic Lloyds of London Building. This piece was later auctioned by Eric Knowles of Bonhams. Willard was subsequently honored with receiving an MBE from HRH Prince Charles for his services to art.

Unsurprisingly, Willard’s life is now attracting significant attention from the literary and film industries alike, each eager to secure his life story.

GO PLAY!
Something I did a little while back. I wanted to use paints to make this sun looking blazing hot. It was a fun little project that ended up being 8.5" x 11". I think it's important to just play with your ideas sometimes. It takes little effort to spend a 1/2 day or so to get those niggling ideas out of your head and into fabrics. It's even better if you need that rest in between projects, a creative block or to break up monotony on something you are working on for a very long time. Go play!
I Love my Dad!!
Happy Father's Day daddy...you are and always will be my hero!

Just a Normal Day Where I Live

He's a mighty fine looking young man if I say so myself. No zooming for this picture...he was right there in front of my car and I was excited.
Bye bye big fella.....enjoy your journey!

Everytime I look at this picture, I can't but help to see a quilt. I am in love with these tiles and especially the design. It makes for a nice cheery spring time quilt.

YOUR COLOR FIX FOR TODAY

What a week it has been for me. I guess this is my year for sorting, gifting, re-purposing,charitable contributions, organizing and throwing away. Yes, I am talking about my stuff. I really don't need stuff...no, no....I'm not talking about my quilting/sewing/crafting stuff...I'm talking about everything else...those nik nak-y things I've collected over the years. I have just grown out of them and I want to live more simply...without all the clutter and dusting. Bended Bias Applique ,Make Something,Your Quotes for Today,Quilty Things I Like,Your Color Fix for Today

There is nothing more exciting than when a student you have taught in class comes back to show you there finished quilt! This is exactly what happened to me while teaching in Houston about 6 months after I had taught a guild in the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia. So in honor of all my students who finish their class quilt and email or show me when it is done, I pass on to you a very nice discount on Bended Bias Applique until the end of July,'09. Reg. price-$22.95 and now for a short time only -$18.00 plus $2.00 media mail shipping in the USA. Out of country, please email me.
Paypal is accepted: lpoole@ptd.net

Bended bias is more than stained-glass, it’s as a designer bias tape that can have diverse functions: outlining applique designs, edging pieced patterns or blocks, emphasizing open areas in scroll work or frames.
This book begin with basics: quick and easy method for making bias, applique it, circles and ovals, and quilt around bias.
Then 35 nature-inspired patterns and 6 frames patterns can be used with bended bias.

When was the last time you made something for yourself?
I am sure so many of you are like me. We make things for everyone but ourselves.
On my personal
"To Do List", I have included a couple things for "me". I am going to make a little demi-tasse pincushion from a broken set that was my triple great aunts..... and a root beer float. Sounds good now, doesn't it?

YOUR QUOTES FOR TODAY:

I have always loved this weather vane....but is it a weather vane? It's on top of one of the neatest homes near where I live. My little sleepy town of Milford, PA becomes alive in the summer time. It is a haven for the city folk to escape the rat race and enjoy all the mountains, water holes and Delaware river has to offer. In September 2007, Budget Travel Magazine named Milford, Pennsylvania, second on its list of "Ten Coolest Small Towns in America".

QUILTY THING I LIKE
I went garage sale-ing with my friend Laura today and she bought this most amazing antique rocker that us short people can touch our toes to the floor kind. I wonder if I can talk her into recovering it with a quilt top.....I'll let ya know if she does it and of course post a pick!
Aren't these the coolest quilty pieces of furniture?

I wonder if this was really intended to be used as a tent??? I think it looks awesome, why not, right?

YOUR COLOR FIX FOR TODAY

Summer is in full force here in PA and I am looking forward to dipping my feet into some of the many watering holes here at the base of our waterfalls. Backpack, lemonade and cookies. That's what makes me happy on a summer day and of course my lil pup trotting along with me. I hope you come back and visit oftern. I love to read and answer comments too:

Quote for Today,Flying Hearts Applique, Beloga Sewing Machine,Vanessa Carlton,My Word Doodle,Cool Quilty Things I love,Your Color Fix for Today

Flying Hearts
Just a little applique fun we had in a swap on my Fairie Goddess Mother Yahoo Group. I had alot of fun making these and I received a bunch of other cool one's too!

Not Your Grandmother's Sewing Machine
I am a Bernina Girl, but I thought you would love to see this really cool sewing machine design. It's not in production just yet! Kinda reminds me of what the Jetson's would use! (Remember the Jetson's?)

belOga comes with a big "O", and an even bigger circular touch-screen which replaces the usual scheme of buttons and controls. This sewing machine concept was designed by Kristine Brückner, an industrial design graduate from the Munich's University of Applied Sciences with an impressive portfolio.

Apart from its less than ordinary shape, the belOga makes sewing more fun. By laying in a spool of thread the machine automatically conducts the thread through the machine - all you have to do is put the thread through the needle to get started. The centre display allows you to see what the stitch will look like in advance, this means less unpleasant stitching surprises. You can even enjoy the inner life of the belOga through two little lenses on the side of the body.

Kristine notes that the belOga is notyet in production, so feel free to drop her a message (male.diven@gmx.de) if you know anyone who is not afraid to spice up the backstage of fashion!

Vanessa Carlton

You know her. You've heard her. Click here to listen

Vanessa is from my town, Milford Pa and she came to grace the stage at the Milford Music Fest with her music and beautiful voice. We are very proud of her. The Milford Music Fest is free and we have brought in some amazing big names. The town transforms into a playground for music and art lovers. I took loads of pics and just hurried up some to post here.

You can learn more by clicking on the cow icon on the right side of the page.

I just LOVE these vintage treadle machine posters!

I wonder if you can erase this fabric, recolor
and have a new outfit for the next time???

.My Doodle
Word Prompt #13: Tree's
I am so far behind posting my doodles for all the great word prompt's that Jaye has been giving. I hope you will think on giving these word prompts a try. It doesn't have to be a doodle, it can be anything you desire, ATC's, poetry, a scribble, a quilt....anything goes! Click on Clara the Cow Icon on the right side and see what it's all about!

Your Quote for Today
If you haven't been told lately that what you create is great, well.....then I will tell you. Everything you do, be it small or large...you did a great job! And I, as a creative person, thank you for creating too. We make the world a more colorful and interesting place to live. It takes energy to create and I acknowledge that in you. Bravo to you!!!
YIPPEE FOR BUTTONS
So exactly what are you doing with "your" buttons? I believe that most quilters have a large button supply in tins, boxes or jars.....but what are we doing with them and why are we collecting them. Let's pull those buttons out and do things with them. If you are looking for ideas, just check out some of these awesome ideas and let them be a starting point of inspiration for you

I am loving the idea of taking my buttons and creating a small patchwork quilt with them. I think I will glue my buttons to a velvet wrapped piece of cardboard.
BUT....look at these....wonderful, huh?

I can't even imagine spending all these hours, days, weeks doing this, but I do appreciate the person who thought of this and put their idea into fruition! I wish I could see it in person!!!

These are so fun to look at and I bet a real blast to make. How could you not be happy after making these?
I think this is so beautiful that I could see myself making one of these for Christmas as a center piece. I think I am finally inspired to use a multitude of my buttons. Why would I just want to keep collecting them and not make anything?

I wonder if she has any cats? Fun purse, but even a more fun toy for the kitties!

I am now convinced that I love my buttons even more now. I want to and will make the flower pot. I am totally inspired!
Zoie, the Sailor Girl
As you know, my little quilting assistant Zoie does insist part of the time to be included here. She is already 7 1/2 months old....can you believe it? She went on the water for the first time and took quite well to it. In about a whole five minutes after we launched, she jumped into the water.

QUILTY LOOKING THINGS I LIKE

I just love this toaster. I love it so much that I can see me eating more carbs than I should....I LOVE toasted English Muffins!

Hmmmm...great way to recycle all that unwanted fabric?
Remember this decade?

They actually make this little tool to help you with your color selections
....click here to check it out.

Life is good, sewing chimes, tattoo,Dream Watcher Fairie class,Quote for today, Your Color Fix for today

Life really is good when you seriously think about it.
Minor and major things will happens to us. The big, small,
inconvenient, heartbreaking or something gladly, euphorically accepted.
We have to embrace the beautiful events life gives us and keep strong for the things that we wish would go aw
ay.
Everything will make us stronger!
Now after all that talk about how life is good, I have to laugh when I saw this old poster. Ummm...perhaps this gentleman's life isn't so good at the moment, and....hmmm..not sure he will be stronger from this, but I am sure he will not asked for his pants to be patched again!!!

Once again, Crafty Chica makes wonderful things with all this crafty and sewing stuff. This wind chime is so colorful and fun with all the baubles added!
I can't believe I found another sewing tattoo..they are spouting up everywhere! If you don't remember the really awesome ones I found and blogged about before, click here.

Inside my classroom
Dream Watcher Fairie

INSIDE MY CLASSROOM
DREAM WATCHER FAIRIE

This fairie's name is Rainbow, painter of hopes, dreams and colors. You probably all know how much I loveeeee making bias tape, I really do! Part of the rainbow that is being painted has gorgeous multi colored marbled bias tape. Of course her clouds are all silver lined with bias tape of course.
I love Shirley Love's (gotta lover her name) fairie's hair....silver lame.

Know who these two girls are?
I lovingly refer to them as the Flower Pounding twins!
It's Ann Frischkorn and Amy Sandrin, who I have been a fan of.
They are a hoot to have it class and look at their beautiful fairies!!

I love how Carolyn Finlayson of Panama City, FL made her fairie into a Mer-fairie. The hair fabric is mega awesome and in the end, Carolyn used seashells to hide her mermaid fairie's "girls". hehe

My mom Gloria's fairie is named Signorina Glorianna Fabia. She is the fairie that makes sure everyone at Carnivalle in Venice has their masks for the grand affair!
And there just has to be a quilting fairie, right? Lauren Orben of PA made "Thimbelina" the quilting fairie. That is a REAL little crazy quilt in the hoop.

I absolutely love, love, love Peggie Stromberg's wings on her fairie!!
(hey Peggie....would love to know how your fairie is progressing!!!)

Helen Umstead from Lord's Valley, PA made this fun "nut cracker-ish" fairie quilt. I love how she set the fairie inside the ballet slippers.
This is Ivanna Travel. I made this quilt because "I vanna always travel!!!"
She is the fairie that keeps all travels safe. Her dress is fabric I brought back from Turkey and the background is map fabric of Paris.
Gina Bentz of Tallahassee, FL is fun! We laughed (ok, snorted) non stop in class along with everyone else. Choclate was the culprit, alot of it consumed in class!!!
I think her fairie is so romantic!

This is in Harrogate, England where I met up with Maureen and her "Nutty McNutkins" fairie. Take a good look at her fairies bracelet...inventive, huh?

I love how Lynn Page of Savannah, GA used butterfly fabric for the wings, and again her choice for hair is superb.
(Sorry your eyes were closed).

Painted Sewing Machines,Quilting Funnies,Celtic Swirls Class, Your COlor Fix for Today

Of course it's a good day!
We are creative people. People who crave to make things, to touch fabrics, threads, needles and to put our thoughts into fabric which in turn, makes beautiful quilts. It a good day because we make beautiful things that bring joy and color to this world!

PAINTED SEWING MACHINES

I started to think about these painted sewing machines. Why are there not more of us who would do this? We seem to personalize everything else, right? Do we buy our machines and try to keep it pristine with the intentions of selling it one day? I know that the day I purchased my machine, selling it was the furthest thing from my mind that day. But the BIG question is....can I take paint and a brush and paint her? Could you? And why not?
I just may personalize my machine one of these days!

And...check out these "GORGEOUS" airbrushed sewing machines
by Advanced Airbrush.

I am in awe!!! Aren't you?

I am now itching to paint my machine.......now to think of designs...

I Love #5...now let's say that over and over...all we can ever do in our lives, is to just do our best, there is nothing more than that...and why would you not do your best?
It doesn't have to be perfect, or for someone else.
"DO YOUR BEST" just for you!

A FUNNY FOR YOU
Now only if the mechanic would speak to us like that.
I actually may understand him!

CELTIC SWIRLS
Here's another peak into my classroom. Believe me, making these intricate celtic swirly designs is NOT hard. Ask any of my students who have taken this class. It's all in the technique!!!

Ahhh...the good ole wall of fame. This is the fun part, to see what we have achieved at the end of the class. See....it isn't hard at all....everyone completed their celtic swirls!

YOUR COLOR FIX FOR TODAY

Thanks for stopping in. I love finding and bringing you some of the "different" things that happen in our quilting/sewing world. It's a fun thing for me to do! Now here is my question for you. DO you know of anything that is "different" out there that should be brought to the attention of every single one of us? DO you or your friends make quilts not for the bed, walls, or to wear? Do you know of anyone that has painted, yes painted a quilt on their walls or somewhere else? Let me know and I will feature it right here for all to see.
Thanks everyone and if you like my blog....tell everyone!
